Understanding Your New Main Wallet vs. Your Old Main Wallet
Understanding Your New Main Wallet vs. Your Old Main Wallet

Learn the difference between your multi-chain and old EVM-only wallets.

Updated this week

In this article:

Understand the difference between your Main Wallet (New) and your previous Main Wallet (Old) after migrating to a multi-chain wallet in Best Wallet.

Learn what this means, how they work, and whether you need to transfer funds.

What is the difference between Main Wallet (New) and Main Wallet (Old)?

After migrating to a multi-chain wallet, you will see two different wallets in Best Wallet:

Main Wallet (New) — This is your new multi-chain wallet, supporting Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, and Polygon, with more blockchains coming soon.

Main Wallet (Old) — This is your EVM-only wallet from before the migration. It still functions normally and holds assets from Ethereum, Polygon, and BNB Smart Chain.

These wallets are entirely separate and not linked, meaning your funds do not automatically move from your old wallet to your new one. Although they are labeled "Old" and "New", they are completely different wallets that are not connected and can be used simultaneously.

The label "(Old)" is just for easy identification — your old wallets are all fully functional, will not be deleted or removed, and you can keep using them indefinitely.

Do I need to transfer funds from my old wallet?

Your Main Wallet (Old) is still fully functional. However, transferring funds to your new Main Wallet (New) may be beneficial for:

  • Unified multi-chain experience: Manage all your crypto in one wallet, including Bitcoin.

  • Enhanced security features: Your new wallet supports cloud backups and MPC security via Fireblocks.

  • Future blockchain support: New blockchains like Solana, Base, and Tron will only be available in your Main Wallet (New).

That said, you are not required to transfer funds — your Main Wallet (Old) remains active and functions exactly as before, meaning you can still send, receive, and manage assets there.

What happens to my old Main Wallet after migration?

Your Main Wallet (Old) stays in your Best Wallet account, labeled now as “EVM-Only Wallet.” You can:

  • Continue using it for EVM-based transactions (it still only supports the Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, and Polygon networks).

  • Transfer assets to your new Main Wallet (New) at any time — this is moving assets from one wallet to another and should be transferred using the Send function in Best Wallet.

  • Keep it as is — there is no risk of losing access or your wallet being deleted. You can still use it on-ramp, trade, and purchase Upcoming Tokens with. There is no necessity to start using the multi-chain wallets unless you want to buy and hold Bitcoin (BTC).

How do I transfer funds if I choose to?

If you want to consolidate your funds into your new multi-chain wallet:

  1. First, get the correct blockchain or token address of your new multi-chain wallet.

  2. Next, go to your Main Wallet (Old) card.

  3. Tap Send, then pick the cryptocurrency you want to transfer.

  4. Copy in your Main Wallet (New) address.

  5. Set up and confirm the transaction, and pay any necessary gas fees.

If confused, please follow our guide on how to receive tokens, plus our guide on how to send tokens.

How to back up your different wallets

The most important thing you need to do is create backups of both your wallets.

To back up your new multi-chain wallet, head to Settings → Manage Wallets → Multi-Chain Wallets → Cloud Backup. This is very important as this cloud backup is how you can regain access to your multi-chain wallets and Best Wallet if you lose or change your device, or have to uninstall the app. Read our detailed guide on how to back up your multi-chain wallet.

You should also back up your old main wallet — this involves making physical copies of your wallet's private key. This backup is for your eyes only — never share your wallet's private keys with anyone.
