Multi-Chain vs. EVM-Only Wallets: What’s The Difference?
Multi-Chain vs. EVM-Only Wallets: What’s The Difference?

Learn how Multi-Chain and EVM-Only wallets work in Best Wallet.

Updated over a month ago

In this article:

Learn the difference between Multi-Chain and EVM-Only wallets in Best Wallet. It's important to understand the differences and limitations of your wallets so you can transact successfully with them.

What is a Multi-Chain Wallet?

Best Wallet's Multi-Chain Wallet lets you manage crypto across different blockchain networks within one wallet.

This means you can buy, deposit, and swap tokens on multiple chains without needing separate wallets.

Any wallet you create in Best Wallet, including the initial one you made when you first signed up, is a Multi-Chain Wallet — you can check by the tag on the wallet card, or in Manage Wallets in the Settings tab.

This means you manage assets across Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Bitcoin, and Polygon — all in one place.

Benefits of a multi-chain wallet:

  • One wallet for multiple and varied blockchains

  • Easily switch between different networks

  • Access a wider range of tokens and dApps

What is an EVM-Only Wallet?

An EVM-Only Wallet only supports blockchains that are compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). In Best Wallet, this is limited to the Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, and Polygon networks.

This means you can't buy, hold, or trade any token on non-EVM chains like Bitcoin or Solana in your EVM-Only Wallets.

It's also important to note that Best Wallet does not support other fully EVM-compatible networks like Base.

Benefits of an EVM-Only Wallet:

  • Supports Ethereum and other EVM-based blockchains under one wallet address.

  • Works seamlessly with Ethereum dApps, making it easy to access some of the most widely used platforms like Uniswap.

Which wallet type is right for you?

You can now only create Multi-Chain Wallets in Best Wallet, but you may still own some legacy EVM-Only Wallets from before the migration.

We highly recommend you start shifting your crypto from your EVM-Only Wallets to your Multi-Chain Wallets — not only because their capabilities are better, but you can also benefit from enhanced security and cloud backups.
