What Happens To Your Existing Wallets After Migration?

Learn what happens to your wallet(s) when you migrate.

This guide explains what happens to your existing wallets after upgrading to Best Wallet's multi-chain wallet and how to access them.

How to successfully migrate

If you have yet to migrate to multi-chain wallets, please read our step-by-step guide on how to migrate.

What happens after migration?

Your existing wallet is upgraded to a multi-chain wallet, supporting Bitcoin and, in the future, other non-EVM assets and blockchains, including Solana, Ton, and Base.

Your assets remain accessible in your old wallets, now labeled as "EVM-Only" — these wallets don't change to multi-chain, and remain the same, with the same addresses and private keys.

Can I still use my old EVM-Only Wallet(s)?

Yes, your previous wallet remains accessible.

You can still use and access your old EVM-only wallets by swiping through your wallet cards or going to Settings → Manage Wallets. You can use them exactly as before

Should I keep using my old EVM-only wallets or transfer my assets to my new wallet?

This is completely up to you, but your new multi-chain wallet can do everything your old wallet can, plus hold and transfer Bitcoin. In the coming months, many more blockchains will be added, including Base, Solana, and Ton.

There is a benefit to using a multi-chain wallet — read our guide on Multi-Chain versus EVM-Only wallets.

What if I backed up my wallet before migrating?

Your wallets should automatically import alongside your new multi-chain wallet — if they don't, you will either need to recover your old main wallet and/or import any created/imported wallet.

You can keep your backups somewhere safe, as it's good crypto practice to have offline backups of all your wallets, just in case you lose access to your device/Best Wallet app.

Additionally, please backup your new multi-chain wallet — read our step-by-step guide on how to backup in-app.

Will my addresses change?

For your old wallets, your Ethereum and EVM-compatible addresses will remain the same as before, as well as the private key.

For your new multi-chain wallet, it will have a completely different set of addresses — one for Ethereum, one for Bitcoin, and so on. This is because it's a brand-new wallet (hence the balance being 0).
