Learn how to back up your wallet in Best Wallet by securely copying and storing your private key. This simple step will help you keep your crypto safe and ensure that you can recover your funds in case you need to transfer your wallet to a new device.
What is a private key?
A private key is like the password to your crypto wallet. It’s a string of random characters that grants access to your wallet and its contents. Whenever you send or receive crypto, your private key is used to authorize these transactions.
Your private key is the most important piece of information that grants you control over your crypto funds and should be kept safe at all times.
For example, your private key might look something like this:
5Jk5xFw7rxdfgKsjKjfhG3jss10KNwXfa1ahs12fvg428dngdfy3528usf27g3ndkai
Think of your private key as the key to your digital vault, and it must be protected. If someone gains access to it, they could potentially control your funds.
If you were to lose access to your Best Wallet app, you can use your wallet's private key to import your wallet and crypto into another wallet provider or on another device.
Essentially, with a secure copy of your private key, you will always be able to access your crypto in that wallet (as long as no one else has access to your private key).
How to back up with a private key copy
The easiest way to back up any wallet in Best Wallet is by making a copy of your wallet's private key. It's incredibly important to handle this process securely, as any leak or mishandling of your private key can result in losing all your crypto.
Step 1: Find your wallet's private
In the Best Wallet app, tap the Settings icon on the navigation bar.
Select Manage Wallets to see a list of your wallets.
Choose the wallet you want to back up. This can be your Main Wallet, any Created Wallets, or Imported Wallets.
Step 2: Copy your wallet's private key
Next, select the wallet you want to back up. We recommend backing up any wallet with funds in it, including ones with Upcoming Tokens purchases.
Once inside that wallet's manage page, tap Private Keys.
Carefully read the in-app warning about handling your private key securely.
Tap Continue, and you will be asked to authenticate using your passcode or biometrics. This ensures that only you can access your private key.
Your private key will now be displayed, and you will have the option to copy it to your clipboard.
Important note: Do not store your private key on your device’s notes or in a screenshot. Always ensure it is securely backed up offline.
Securing your private key
Now that you’ve found your private key, it’s crucial to store it safely. Here are some of the most secure options:
Paper Wallets: Write down your private key on paper and store it in a secure location.
Encrypted USB Drive: Store your private key on an encrypted USB drive.
Cold Storage: Keep your private key on a device that is never connected to the internet.
Storing your private key offline is the most secure method and prevents online threats from compromising your funds.
Please don't ever share your private key with anyone online — no one from Best Wallet or any legitimate platform will ask for private keys.
