Learn how you can interact with the Solana blockchain using Best Wallet, including how to buy SOL, send and receive SPL tokens, and explore the Solana ecosystem — all with lightning-fast speeds and ultra-low fees.
Intro to Solana
Solana is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain known for fast, low-cost transactions. Unlike Ethereum-compatible networks, Solana uses a unique architecture and programming environment tailored for speed and scalability.
Solana uses a combination of Proof of History (PoH) and Proof of Stake (PoS) to achieve consensus. This lets the network process thousands of transactions per second, often with finality (transaction confirmation) in under a second, and at a fraction of a cent per transaction.
Solana has its own token standard called SPL. To interact with any Solana asset or dApp, you'll need a small amount of SOL — the network’s native token — to pay for gas fees and rent.
Interacting with Solana in Best Wallet
To get started, you’ll need a wallet that supports the Solana network — specifically, a multi-chain wallet inside Best Wallet. Any EVM-only wallet you own in Best Wallet won't be Solana compatible.
Please Note: Do not attempt to send SOL or any SPL tokens to a non-multi-chain wallet in Best Wallet. The address formats are different, and the deposit will either fail or result in lost funds.
You’ll also need SOL in your Solana wallet to pay gas fees and to initialize new token accounts (a process that may require rent — see below).
You can:
Buy SOL directly in your Solana wallet using Best Wallet
Receive SOL from another wallet or a decentralized exchange
Withdraw SOL from a centralized exchange like Coinbase or Binance
With SOL in your wallet, you can start buying, sending, receiving, and swapping Solana-based assets or connecting to dApps across the Solana ecosystem.
Buying crypto on Solana
You can buy cryptocurrencies on the Solana network directly in Best Wallet thanks to our integration with trusted third-party providers.
Just go to the Buy option, select one of the available-to-buy Solana assets, and complete your purchase via one of our trusted third-party providers.
Read our step-by-step guide on how to buy SOL in-app.
Receiving crypto on Solana
You can receive SOL and other Solana-based tokens directly to any Solana wallet in Best Wallet.
To deposit Solana assets, just go to Receive, select Solana Chain, and use that wallet’s specific Solana address to transfer funds.
Read our in-depth guide on how to receive SOL and SPL assets in-app.
Sending crypto on Solana
You can transfer any SOL or SPL tokens you have on Solana from Best Wallet — just go to Send, enter a Solana-compatible address, and send your tokens.
Read our guide on how to send tokens.
Swapping tokens on Solana
You can swap tokens on Solana directly in your Solana wallet without needing to use an external exchange.
You can swap tokens on Solana or cross-chain (for example, from Ethereum or Base to Solana, or vice versa).
Read our guides on how to swap on the same chain and cross-chain.
Understanding Solana gas fees and rent
Solana’s transaction fees are extremely low — often less than $0.01 — and are paid in SOL, the native currency of Solana.
To activate your Best Wallet for Solana, you must have a small balance of SOL in your wallet — this ensures you can complete any transaction.
Some tokens may require you to pay rent when you first receive them. This is a one-time SOL deposit that covers the cost of initializing a token account. If you don’t have enough SOL, your transaction may fail.
To reduce friction, you must have sufficient SOL in your wallet to complete these steps.
Network congestion is rare, but it can happen during major events. Always keep a healthy amount of SOL in your wallet to ensure smooth transactions. You can check the Solana network status at https://solscan.io.
Before sending, swapping, or interacting with a dApp, make sure you have enough SOL to cover both the transaction fee and any required rent.
