How To Avoid Phishing Scams

Learn how to identify, avoid, and report any phishing scams.

Phishing scams are one of the most common tactics used by scammers to steal cryptocurrency. They target users by creating fake emails, messages, or websites that mimic legitimate platforms like Best Wallet. Here’s how you can stay safe and protect your funds.

What are phishing scams?

Phishing scams deceive users by pretending to be trusted sources, such as Best Wallet or Upcoming Tokens projects. They typically involve:

  • Fake Emails or Messages: These often look authentic and include urgent calls to action, such as “claim your tokens now” or “investment opportunities”. They often will have suspicious links in them, saying they're a support link or a project's website.

  • Fraudulent Websites: Scammers create copycat websites with slight changes to the domain name (e.g., bestwallett.com instead of bestwallet.com). These sites are designed to trick users into connecting their wallets or entering sensitive information.

How phishing scams work

Phishing scams tend to be diverse and constantly changing, but generally these stick to the following formats:

  • Duplicate Websites: Scammers may create fake claim pages for tokens, especially during the launch of an Upcoming Token. When users connect their wallets, the scammers gain access and steal funds.

  • Credential Theft: Scammers request your wallet's private keys, secret recovery phrases, or passwords on phishing websites or via fake support emails. Remember, never share any of this information with anyone, even if they say they're from Best Wallet support.

  • Fraudulent Investment Platforms: Some scams mimic trading platforms, initially allowing small withdrawals to build trust before locking users out of their accounts.

How to protect yourself against phishing scams

Follow these tips to identify and avoid falling victim to a phishing scam:

Verify Links and URLs

Always double-check the URL of any website before connecting your wallet.

Ensure it matches the official domain (e.g., bestwallet.com). Phishing sites often use subtle misspellings or extra characters. There are often many fraudulent claim websites during an Upcoming Token's claim period, so please only use links in official communications from Best Wallet or their official channels.

Claim only via official communications

Only claim Upcoming Tokens directly within the Best Wallet app or through verified links shared on our official X account.

Avoid clicking on links from unverified emails, messages, or advertisements. Don't ever connect your wallet to a website until you've double-checked and verified its URL.

Stay suspicious of unsolicited messages

Be wary of unexpected emails or DMs, even if they seem to come from Best Wallet or an Upcoming Token project.

If a message feels off, it likely is. Cross-reference it with previous legitimate communications or contact support for verification.

Never share your wallet's private keys or secret recovery phrases

No one from the Best Wallet team or a legitimate project will ever ask for your private key or secret recovery phrase. If anyone does, it’s a scam.

Report suspicious activity

Help protect the community by reporting fraudulent emails or websites to Best Wallet’s support team or social admins.

How Best Wallet keeps you safe

Best Wallet prioritizes your security, and we have set up official channels and a dedicated support team to keep you safe.

We only share official links on verified channels, including X and Telegram.

Our app is also designed to protect you from connecting to unverified platforms by making you manually approve any connection and transaction.

However, it is on you to remain vigilant, and always think twice before clicking on a link or sharing sensitive information.

Unsure how to spot a phishing scam?

Phishing scams are increasingly sophisticated, but with the right precautions, you can avoid becoming a victim. Keep your wallet secure by following these tips, and remember: if something feels off, trust your instincts and double-check.

If you're unsure if something is a scam, you can ask questions on our official social channels — we have support staff there to answer general queries.

You can also contact the Best Wallet support team in-app by heading to Settings and then Get Help. Read our guide on how to get in-app support.

Important Reminder: Best Wallet will never request your wallet’s private key or secret recovery phrase. Keep this information strictly private and do not share it with anyone.
